Snacks
Stepping Stones is a nut-free environment. Stepping Stones will provide a dry snack each day. Both
Participating
and Non-Participating parents are required to
provide a nutritious snack for 24 children along with one can of pure apple
juice. Snack duties occur on a rotating basis and are outlined on the Snack &
Duty schedule that is handed out and posted monthly.
Snack
suggestions:
Fruit
- apple slices, banana circles, grapes (cut in half), orange slices,
strawberries, honeydew melon, kiwi, etc - please no cantaloupe
Vegetables - carrot sticks, cucumber slices
Cheese
- sliced or cubed
*For
sanitation purposes, please wash all fruit and vegetables thoroughly before

All
parents are expected to participate in some way whether they are classified as
participating or non-participating. This is done by the way of Committee work,
snack provision and duty days (participating parents only). We also require
parent involvement through attendance at our general meetings, as it helps the
school run smoothly. Below is a list of some of the committee jobs:

Participating Parents
The role of the participating parent is an important
one here at Stepping Stones. We'd like to encourage all parents to get
involved with our program during their time spent in the classroom. By
getting "hands-on" with the children, you will not only gain insight to the
development of your own child by watching them interact with peers and
educators, but you will have lots of fun too! Each participating parent
will be assigned to participate in 1 classroom session every 1-2 months
depending on the number of participating parents. For all
duty days, parents are expected to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the
class in order to prepare the room for the children's arrival, and stay
afterwards for clean-up. You will assist the staff in the playroom,
creative room and gym, and help serve snack to the children. Please note
that siblings are not allowed to attend on Duty Days as this alters our staff:child ratio as set out by the Ministry. We suggest participating
parents wear washable "play" clothing
In addition, in order to participate in
the program, parents must complete a tb skin test, criminal record check and
behaviour management form. As required by the Ministry of Community and
Social Services, the Supervisor will complete a behaviour management checklist
with each participating parent during the month of November.
