Parent Involvement
We encourage all
parents to get involved if possible, by spending time in the classroom. By
getting "first-hand” experience with the children, you gain insight into the
development of your child by watching them interact with peers and educators.
And to be honest, it’s also a lot of fun!
Each
Participating Parent is assigned to 1 classroom session every 1-2 months
depending on the number of participating parents.
On-duty days parents are expected to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the
class to prepare the room and stay afterwards for clean up. You assist the staff
in the playroom, creative room and gym, and help serve snack to the children.
Participating Parents do get a break on fees because of their time commitment to
the school. Please see fees
for more details. To participate in the program, the Ministry of Community and
Social Services requires parents complete a TB skin test, criminal record check
and behaviour management form. The Supervisor will complete the behaviour
management checklist with each Participating Parent during the month of
November.
Please note that siblings are not allowed to attend On-duty days as this alters
our staff:child ratio as set out by the Ministry. We recommend
Participating Parents wear washable "play" clothing.
Non-Participating
Parents also play an important role at Stepping Stones. You will also be asked
to provide a healthy snack when scheduled and just to let you know, your monthly
fees will be slightly higher.
